Trooping the Line

Commanding General of the National Training Center and Fort Irwin, Brig. Gen. Terry Ferrell, and Col. Sherrie L. Bosley, outgoing commander of the 916th Support Brigade, “Troop the Line” during a relinquishment of command ceremony at Fort Irwin, June 27. “Trooping of the Line” is a custom that dates back to the era of Alexander the Great.  This time-honored tradition gave a commander the opportunity to inspect the fitness, readiness and preparations of his or her Soldiers prior to battle.  That morning’s review was symbolic, because it allowed the outgoing commander, Bosley, one last final review of the units and Soldiers she had commanded for the last two years.
