The Fort Irwin shopping tour shuttle runs Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between Fort Irwin and the Home Depot, Walmart and Tanger Outlets in Barstow. An American flag painting contest sponsored by the Fort Irwin Arts and Crafts Center will take place through Sunday. Children ages 3-17 are welcome to participate. There is no cost to enter. Come to the Strike Zone tonight at 5 p.m. and try to beat Pinkertonâ€™s three-game score. Last week he scored 503 points. Any bowler that can beat his three-game series will win three free games of bowling and a free shoe rental. Weekly winners will receive $10 in â€œMWR Bucks,â€ and the overall series winner will get $25 â€œMWR Bucks.â€ The overall top series winner for all three sessions will get his or her name put on a plaque that reads, â€œI Bowled Over the GC,â€ which will be hung at Strike Zone for all to see.

Local veterans interested in sharing their story are invited to participate in the Veterans History Project, a national initiative sponsored by the Red Cross. The program was established by Congress in 2000 to preserve the stories of veterans and civilians supporting U.S. war efforts as far back as World War I. Interested veterans will be interviewed by Red Cross volunteers. Each interview will be sent to the Library of Congress and the veteran will be given a DVD copy of the interview and a dedicated website at www.loc.gov/vets. Samâ€™s Smoke Shop, at 1620 West Main Street in Barstow, and the Phillips 76 gas station on East Main Street in Barstow have been designated off-limits to all Soldiers stationed at the National Training Center and Fort Irwin.
The nature of business conducted in these locations has been found to be detrimental to the health and welfare of Soldiers. Fort Irwinâ€™s leadership is taking this action to protect Soldiersâ€™ health and welfare..
