Conner Brooks, 5, gets help picking out a new backpack from Pfc. Blackshear during the Operation Homefront Back-to-School Brigade event July 24.

On July 24, members of MEDDAC joined with Operation Homefront to provide backpacks filled with school supplies to children of NTC military members. 250 backpacks along with assorted general school supplies were given out free of charge. Children were allowed to choose their own backpacks and materials as soldiers guided them through a maze of tables stacked high with provisions.

Operation Homefront’s 2012 Back-To-School Brigade program provides backpacks full of school supplies to local military kids. In 2011, the Back-To-School Brigade program raised over $2 million in school supplies nationwide through its partnership with Dollar Tree. Through the generosity of individual and corporate contributors, Operation Homefront has provided over 33,000 backpacks to military families.

Items donated for the campaign include spiral notebooks, pens, pencils, markers, crayons, notebook paper, rulers, colored pencils, calculators, and erasers.  This program saves military families a major educational expense.
