TODAY

Storytime at the Library will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Fort Irwin Library. All toddlers and preschoolers and their parents are welcome to join library staff for stories, crafts, and songs. For more information, call 380-3462.

TOMORROW

Mary Walker Clinic closed .The Clinic will reopen Sept 4. For routine appointments call 380-3114/3115. For emergencies go to the emergency room at Weed Army Hospital.

SATURDAY

Strike Zone Bowling Center has Cosmic Bowling every Saturday night from 8 p.m. to midnight. Come listen to the latest hits while bowling with disco lights and glow-in-the-dark pins. Cost is $20 for unlimited bowling. For more information, call 380-4249.

MONDAY

Strike Zone Bowling Center offers a game of bowling for just $1 with any combo meal purchased from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5-7 p.m. Bring your receipt to the bowling counter. Shoe rental applies. For more information, call 380-4249.

TUESDAY

The Fort Irwin shopping tour shuttle runs Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between Fort Irwin and the Home Depot, Walmart and Tanger Outlets in Barstow. Anyone with valid ID to access Fort Irwin can take advantage of this service. Cost is $2.75 for a one-way ride. Children 5 and under are free. For more information, call 380-3598 or 380-4784.

Protestant Women of the Chapel will host its fall kick-off Sept. 4 at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Center Chapel. Food and child care will be provided. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/pwocfortirwin or email pwoc.ftirwin@gmail.com.

WEDNESDAY

The EDGE and HIRED programs will visit California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, Calif., on Sept. 5. The trip is open to all high school youth registered with CYSS and will provide them with a campus tour and admissions requirements presentation. The trip will leave Bldg. 1313 at 7:30 a.m. and return at 6 p.m. Sign-up deadline is Aug. 31. For more information, visit Bldg. 1313 or call 380-8412.

Tune in to Garrison commander Col. Kurt Pinkerton’s Facebook Roundup show on 88.3 KNTC FM for your chance to ask the Garrison commander questions and get updates on what’s going on in the community. ONGOING

 

SKIES Unlimited now has watercolor and sketching lessons available. The instructor is Yevgenia Watts, a Ukranian-born watercolor artist. Classes will take place Tuesday from 5-6 p.m. at Bldg. 1317. Cost is $65 and includes basic supplies. Call 380-7751 for more information.

Fort Irwin kids interested in drama and acting can join the newly-created STARZ Theater Company Drama Club. It is an eight-week course for students in grades 4-12 which will meet Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m. in Bldg. 1317 beginning Sept. 12. Cost is $80. For more information, call 380-7751.

AWANA, a youth and children’s ministry, will start back up for the 2012-2013 school year at 4 p.m. Aug. 29 at Center Chapel. Cost for all uniforms and supplies is $10 per child, with a maximum of $20 per family. AWANA will meet every Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. Adult volunteers are also needed. The Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation is holding a sweepstakes giving away four grand prizes. The four top winners will receive a seven-day trip with spending money and airfare included to Dragon Hill Lodge in Korea, Shades of Green resort in Disney World, Hale Koa Hotel in Hawaii, or Edelweiss Lodge and Resort in Germany.
