Open House showcases services at CDC

An open house was held Sept. 7 at the Cactus Corner Child Development Center on post. The open house was a chance for parents who have children attending the Happy Hearts CDC to visit and be introduced to the management team and the facility.

The two centers are combining to better utilize available recourses.

According to Andrea Wooley, director Cactus Corner Child Development Center, both facilities were operating at less than 60 percent of capacity.

Happy Hearts located in building 1317, has been open for a number of years. Cactus Corner opened in December 2010. The Cactus Corner CDC is a state-of-the-art center and was awarded the United States Green Building Council LEED Gold Certification in January 2011.

The building meets Army standards for child care facilities. Each room is smaller, so fewer children are in each class. Teachers can spend more quality time with each child.

More than 250 children use the facility, ranging in age from six weeks to five years.

The Happy Hearts building will still be used for Super Saturdays, as well as special events.
