The annual Oktoberfest celebration kick-off on Fort Irwin saw revelers enjoy activities, food and drinks at Shock Wave, Sept. 15.
Community members got to enjoy a bit of Bavarian culture from Germany. A keg tapping, bratwurst eating contest, some dancing, and other activities filled the late afternoon and evening hours. Prizes were handed out to winners of games that were held in the outdoors of the venue, which hosts the event on a yearly basis.
Oktoberfest is a two-week festival held annually in Munich, Germany, and takes place from late September to the first weekend in October. It is considered the world’s largest fair, with more than 5 million people attending every year. The celebration is a significant part of Bavarian culture, having been held since the early 1800’s.
