Sergeant 1st Class Juan Nanez served for 20 years and is retiring to his hometown of Visalia, Calif. He plans on pursuing a career that utilizes his bachelor of science degree in Operations Management.

A ceremony held Sept. 18 inside a packed Sandy Basin Community Center, here, recognized five senior non-commissioned officers who retired this month from the Army.

The five patriots who retired are: 1st Sgt. Karl Boldman, 1st Sgt. Renato Gabriel, Master Sgt. Hwa Yi, Sgt. 1st Class Juan Nanez, and Sgt. 1st Class Jesus Rodriguez.

Presiding over the ceremony was the official party, which consisted of Operations Group Commander Col. Paul Calvert and Command Sgt. Maj. Maurice Jackson.

Calvert presented each NCO with a Meritorious Service Medal. They also received a certificate of retirement and a lapel button from the Armed Forces of the United States of America for having served faithfully and honorably in the U.S. Army. A certificate of appreciation from the President of the U.S. for service in the Armed Forces, a U.S. flag, a letter of appreciation from Congress, the Secretary of the Army, and the commanding general of the National Training Center, was also given to the retiring NCO’s for their service in the Armed Forces.
