The National Training Center and Fort Irwin hosted a job fair Sept. 27, at Sandy Basin Community Center.
Hundreds of job seekers from the installation and the surrounding communities took advantage of the fair to meet with almost 40 employers with openings.
Cherie Morrison of Yermo came looking for a local position as a clerk.
“I really want to find something local,” she said.
After dropping off several resumes, Morrison said she found a couple of positions she was interested in.
“We’ve seen several good prospects,” said Mykle Hoye, hiring representative for the Marine Corps Civilian Police Program. “It’s worth coming to Fort Irwin; we get a much bigger response than with an ad, and it’s great to meet the applicants face to face.”
There were several law enforcement agencies represented, including Department of Homeland Security, Riverside County Sheriff, California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Police Department.
Recruiting former military makes sense for law enforcement.
“The type of candidates we see here are ideal,” said Officer Ryan White, LAPD Recruiting Section.
Ryan estimated he had met with over 100 potential candidates.
