October brings national awareness to one of the leading causes of death to women – breast cancer.

In an effort to bring awareness, the Breast Cancer Awareness Committee of Weed Army Community Hospital will be hosting events for the Fort Irwin community this month. To kick off the campaign, the BCAC will host a luncheon at Sandy Basin Community Center from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Oct. 12. Delicious, healthy food will be provided and a breast cancer survivor will speak about her experiences and triumphs.

To work-off all the food and desserts, the BCAC will sponsor a 5k Fun Run/Walk in front of the Mary E. Walker Center, beginning at 8 a.m., Oct. 20. Registration for the run is available at the Mary E. Walker Center lobby, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., through Oct. 11. Free T-shirts and gift bags will be provided to the first 100 registrants. The run is open to competitors, non-competitors and groups. And yes, animals are welcome!

In addition to these wonderful events, the BCAC will have a “Tree of Support” displayed in the Mary E. Walker Center. Everyone is welcome to fill out and hang a ribbon on the tree in support of a family member, friend or loved one who continues to “Fight Forever – Surrender Never”!

So, come on out have some fun and show your support for a great cause.

Achieving high state of training during current fiscal conditions
