Running to support Breast Cancer Awareness

The National Training Center and Fort Irwin community came out running to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by participating in the Annual Breast Cancer Awareness 5K Fun Run/Walk/Ride, Oct. 20.

The community showed off their spirit and support by wearing different shades of pink while navigating the challenging 5K trail. Command Sgt. Maj. Lance P. Lehr, NTC and Fort Irwin command sergeant major, provided opening remarks for the crowd, which included more than 250 racers taking on the course. There were even some “four-legged” racers as some participants brought their pets.

The event was filled with music, provided by DJ Roberto Clemente and the runners warmed up to a Zumba workout given by fitness expert, Shelton Coonfield.

First prize trophies where given to: Jolene Roberts, top female runner; Maj. Eric Iliff, top male runner, and; Chandler Rittenhouse, top child runner.

The Breast Cancer Awareness 5K Fun Run/Walk was a huge success and the Breast Cancer Awareness Committee will continue their mission to bring awareness to breast cancer. Fight Forever … Never Surrender.
