A: I assist the Family Advocacy Program Manager in prevention and education of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse at Fort Irwin U.S. Army Garrison.
Q: What do you get out of volunteering?
A: One of the better-known benefits of volunteering is the impact on the community. Volunteers are often the glue that holds a military community together. Volunteering allows me to connect to my community and make it a better place.
Q: How did you get started as a volunteer?
A: I started volunteering in 2009 for the Army Community Service in USAG Baumholder, Germany. My husband was about to deploy and I was new to the area and needed something to do.
Q: What advice would you give to someone thinking about volunteering?
A: One of the best ways to make new friends and strengthen existing relationships is to commit to a shared activity together.
