CYSS celebrates the Month of the Military Family

The web site Military.com states that each year the President signs a proclamation declaring November the Military Family Month. Last year President Obama said that our nation owes “each day of security and freedom that we enjoy to the members of our Armed Forces and their Families. Behind our brave service men and women, there are Family members and loved ones who share in their sacrifice and provide unending support.”

This annual proclamation marks the beginning of a month-long celebration of the Military Family in which the Department of Defense and the nation will honor the commitment and sacrifices made by the Families of the nation’s servicemembers.

On Nov. 10, Child Youth and School Services held their Eighth Super Saturday of the year. November Super Saturday was special because it was in celebration of The Military Family Month. All Families who signed up received four, free hours of care. We had 70 children attend the event, making it the most successful Super Saturday of the year. Everyone was in good spirits and all the children had a great time.

Jamie Cook’s little girl even asked Mindy Hayes, CYSS employee, if she could spend the night with much excitement. Some parents like Patricia Cook took advantage of the time to have a Girl’s Night Out, while others such as Tori Taylor used it to enjoy some time alone riding her Harley.

Nicole Chacin heard about the event at the monthly Newcomer’s Orientation Welcome, or N.O.W., and spent some quality time with her husband.

“It was great!” said Chacin. “It was a good way to spend a night out, being new in the community, and not knowing a babysitter.”

Krista Moore used the time to volunteer at the Chili Cook Off, and “Loved it!” She also said, “Having the first four hours free was excellent. I loved the hours and always, really enjoy the Super Saturday. Thank you.”

The Military Family Appreciation Month is a way to recognize military Families for their commitment and the many contributions they make every day in support of the military and our nation. Child Youth and School Services thank you for serving this beautiful country and we hope to see you again at our upcoming events.
