Senior Non-Commissioned Officers of the National Training Center and Fort Irwin gathered on a chilly morning to test their mettle at the Post Command Sergeant Major sponsored Senior NCO “Fun Run” and Team building event, Nov. 27.

The event was held at the post obstacle course, with a few “twists” that tested the senior NCO team and built esprit-de-corps. The senior NCO’s ran uphill for a half mile, then tested their team building and motivation on 10 obstacles that stretched more than a quarter mile and included: climbs, crawls, swings and jumps. This was followed by a half-mile return run and ended with a team building session.

Senior NCO’s were challenged on obstacles including a “mystery event” that was contested by Soldiers dressed in full protective equipment; the two-person senior NCO teams had to enter and get through two, opposing forces who blocked their way. The teams also rope-climbed tall obstacles, navigated a sewer complex, low-crawled through a 20-meter “swamp,” and navigated walls.

The session ended with a discussion on the Army profession and how Leaders could best teach our profession. These team building events are scheduled every quarter and build senior Leaders skills, abilities and esprit-de-corps.
