Taking time to celebrate earned achievements

Sergeant Johnathan Werner salutes after receiving his promotion to sergeant, here, Nov. 1. His unit, G Troop, 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, watches on.

Soldiers with G Troop, 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, maintain training and rotational operations as a primary focus. However, this did not stop the unit from marking a very important milestone for one of its beloved Troopers, during the last training rotation.

Spc. Johnathan Werner was promoted to the rank of sergeant, Nov. 1. This promotion was important not only for Werner, but for the entire Troop as it added to the number of junior non-commissioned officers. The NCO Corps is the backbone of the Army, and in G Troop’s case, we are happy to add a junior NCO like Werner to our battle roster.

The promotion is well deserved, said Capt. Ereke Bruce, commander of G Troop. He would definitely know; Werner is the commander’s gunner.

“Sgt. Werner conducted himself as an NCO long before he made E-5,” Bruce said.

Werner, a Quincy, Ill., native, always knew he wanted to be in the Army.

“I’ve always wanted to serve my country,” said Werner. “Joining the Army was the obvious choice. I joined right out of high school, and I’m going to make a career of it.”
