The American Red Cross Youth Group along with Soldiers and their Families went to Barstow Veterans’ Home, where we had a celebration of our Veterans and their service, Dec. 2.
While there we assisted in their weekly bingo game with some of the Veterans sharing their bingo cards with Fort Irwin youth. They played a total of eight games and when it got close to where someone needed one more number, it was everyone on the edge of their seats. The event was a great experience for the Veterans and the Families of Fort Irwin
During the event, the youth passed out sand art stars with red, white, and blue sand along with “Thank you for your service” drink coasters. After bingo, all the Families and youth went to a number of Veterans rooms to pass out more of the small gifts along with holiday cards the Red Cross had gathered from across the country. The Veterans Home has approximately 200 Veterans.
In attendance from Fort Irwin for the event were: Scott Temple, Christian, Megan, Angelina and Major Carrido, Jazel, Alyssa and Jorge Mendoza, Bill Havican, James and Amanda Britton, Ivette Penzola, Daylen Adams, Megan and Ron Israel.
The American Red Cross at Fort Irwin is making this a monthly event. Our next outing will be in January and the event itself only takes about two hours out of your day.
