Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy

IMG_6209Leadership, Soldiers and community members of the National Training Center and Fort Irwin came together to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life at a ceremony, Jan. 9, here.

The event, sponsored by United States Army Medical Department Activity and the installation EO/EEO offices, provided the audience with an informative and retrospective session of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life outside of his fight for civil rights. Several presenters rotated at four stations to brief about King’s education, lifestyle, family and his inspirations. The song “We Shall Overcome” was performed by Lt. Col. Cynthia Sanchez, of MEDDAC (she also sang the National Anthem).

Colonel Ray Antoine, deputy commander of MEDDAC, presented a recognition plaque to Master Sgt. Kelly Pippin for winning the poetry contest, “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – The Whole Man.”

Attendees then enjoyed a sampling of food and social time.
