Use that GI Bill money

August 1, 2013. What does that date mean to you? If you have the GI Bill, read on.

Currently, Soldiers with over 20 years of active duty service can transfer their Post 911 GI Bill education benefits to their Family members with either no service obligation, or in some circumstances, a minimal obligation back to the Army. After August 1, all servicemembers will require a four year service obligation if they wish to transfer their Post 911 GI Bill education benefits to their Family members regardless of their total service and if they are eligible for retirement.

To take part in the transferability of education benefits, Soldiers must have at least six years on active duty. However, if you have less than 20 years of active duty service, before and after August 1, you will require a four year service obligation.

For more information on the Post 911 GI Bill transferability of education benefits, speak with a counselor at the Fort Irwin Education Center by calling 380-4218.

The next Post 911 GI Bill briefing will take place at the Education Center (building 1020) from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., July 24 and 31. Don’t wait for this briefing; if you would like to transfer your education benefits – call the Education Center now!

Get a refund for gasoline taxes

The California gasoline tax refund could save you hundreds of dollars every year. In order to maintain California’s many highways, the state taxes every gallon of fuel that you put into your car (even gas purchased on post). This is reasonable, because we all know what it is like to drive on poorly maintained roads,...
