Col. Jonathan Braga, commander of United States Army Garrison at Fort Irwin, signed a proclamation Aug. 7 that recognized the month of August as Antiterrorism Awareness Month. The campaign urges Soldiers, Family members and civilians on Fort Irwin to work together to prevent terrorism.

Community awareness is a key element in preventing terrorism. It identifies the outside as well as the insider threats such as theft, espionage, sabotage, hacking, infiltration, etc., which can be destructive and costly, yet antiterrorism awareness measures are effective tools in countering them.

They teach you how to effectively identify, assess and deal with a threat, which could come from a fellow employee, vendors or contractors that may pose a threat to your organization or this installation.

Remember, vigilance and awareness coupled with timely reporting of suspicious activities can counter the terrorist threat. Antiterrorism and Force Protection is everybody’s business.

Some of the bullets from the proclamation included:

  • The vitality of our NTC and Fort Irwin community depends on how safe we keep our homes, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and communities
  • People of all ages must be made aware of what they can do to prevent themselves and their families, neighbors, and coworkers from being harmed by terrorists
  • The personal injury, financial loss, and impact to communities from terrorists’ attacks are intolerable and require investment from the whole community
  • Preventing and defeating terrorism includes community protection and security; we must go beyond these to promote self-awareness and self-protection to make Army communities safer for all ages and to develop positive opportunities and a bright future for young people

Get a refund for gasoline taxes

The California gasoline tax refund could save you hundreds of dollars every year. In order to maintain California’s many highways, the state taxes every gallon of fuel that you put into your car (even gas purchased on post). This is reasonable, because we all know what it is like to drive on poorly maintained roads,...
