NTC Operations staff sergeant reenlists to train new recruits

With her daughter Nailah at her side, National Training Center’s Operations Group Schools NCO Staff Sgt. Maria Deogracia (Grace) Elisan was administered an oath by NTC’s commanding general, Brig. Gen. Ted Martin, during her reenlistment, Aug. 19.

Elisan, one of five siblings growing up in Escondido, Calif., is an 11-year Army veteran, having deployed three times to Operation Iraqi Freedom as a motor transport operator, before being assigned to the NTC Operations Group as its Schools NCO, and, recently, being accepted for drill sergeant school.

In his remarks during the reenlistment ceremony at the NTC headquarters, Martin said he was impressed by Elisan after listening to her at a Fort Irwin community health council meeting. He praised her for creating the Coyote Century Program to promote youth health by encouraging children and adults to set and reach a measurable goal of walking, jogging or running 100 miles. He was confident she would be the Army’s best drill sergeant in molding new Soldiers so critical to the Army’s future.
