Fall Festival to incorporate many activities Oct. 17-19

Get your pumpkin-carving tools out, your clog shoes dusted, your grandpa’s venison chili recipe ready, and your haunted house scream warmed up. The Fort Irwin Fall Festival is set to take place Oct. 17-19, brought to you by Directorate of Family, Morale and Welfare, here.

The three day event will feature a pumpkin decorating event, Oktoberfest activities, a haunted house, petting zoo and pony rides, a chili cook-off, live music and the Operation Rising Star finals.

Festivities begin with a dinner buffet and pumpkin decorating event, 5 – 8 p.m., at the Fort Irwin Event and Catering Center, Oct. 17.

The next night, the ever-popular haunted house returns to Fort Irwin at the Samuel Adams Grille from 5 to 6 p.m., for the kid-friendly hour; from 6 – 8 p.m., children must be accompanied by zombies, er…parents. For those with baby sitters, or a free hour that night, a keg tapping takes place from 5 – 6 p.m. to kick-off the Oktoberfest fun. Live music will get you grooving starting at 9 p.m.

Saturday is full of activities with Directorate of Emergency Services getting in on the fun. The DES will host a Safety Day at the Fort Irwin Museum parking lot. Pony rides, a petting zoo and bounce houses open at 10 a.m. in the Samuel Adams Grille parking lot. A chili cook-off will steam roll you from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Samuel Adams Grille parking lot (noticing a theme here). That parking lot is the place to be that weekend!

And don’t forget those Operation Rising Star contestants, who will be performing at their best for a chance to go Army-wide. The finals take place Saturday night from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Oktoberfest tent.

Remember, the current rotation will have concluded, and many of you will have several days off. So, bring your family, your girlfriend, your battle buddies and jump into some autumn fun at the Fall Festival. The following is the complete schedule provided by DFMWR:
