So you want to be in pictures?

Fort Irwin United States Army Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Carlos Esmurria has a photo taken with Korean War Veteran and Silver Star recipient David McEachin, now a Hollywood record producer and actor.

Eleven National Training Center Soldiers mixed it up with hundreds of Hollywood film industry personnel and business community leaders during the annual GI Film Festival at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, Calif., Nov. 1-2.

According to its Web site, GIFF presents films from new and established filmmakers “that honor the heroic stories of the American Armed Forces and the worldwide struggle for freedom and liberty.” The two-day festival included screenings of short military films, including some produced by current and former military personnel, seminars and workshops by Hollywood professionals, meet and greet activities, and award ceremonies.

Leading the NTC contingent were Fort Irwin Garrison command team of Col. Jon Braga and Command Sgt. Maj. Carlos Esmurria. Also representing the Army at the festival was Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. John Campbell.

“The GI Film Festival was a great opportunity for Soldiers to network and learn what the entertainment industry and business leaders are looking for when hiring as well as see some great films by Veterans,” said Fort Irwin and NTC community relations officer Renita Wickes.
