Four fun days at Spring Fling

Spring is finally here and everybody is ready to get outside for some fun!  Fort Irwin Family and MWR is bringing four days of entertainment and activities to the community, March 28-31. Join us in honoring Vietnam Veterans and celebrate the Month of the Military Child. There will be  food vendors, games and educational activities as well. March 28

8:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home Ceremony and Ride at Samuel Adams Grille parking lot. Each year, Fort Irwin celebrates and welcomes home our Vietnam era Veterans. Veterans and motorcycle riders should RSVP at www.irwin.army.mil. Riders assemble at Marine Corps Logistics Base at Barstow in the morning. Ceremony at Fort Irwin is from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., followed by a lunch. Vietnam-era music by Danny Maika Trio from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Call (760) 380-8917 for more information.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Spring Fling Market in the Town Center. Vendors take over Goldstone Road throughout Town Center.

5 – 11 p.m. – Carnival rides hosted by The Exchange at the NTC Museum parking lot.  Call 386-1500 for more information.

5 p.m. – midnight. Springtoberfest at the Samuel Adams Grille parking lot. Enjoy live music by Epic Proportions, DJs Imphamous and EMC TaySoClean, and food for purchase.  Call 380-6717 for more information.

March 29

8 – 10 a.m. Clever Clover 2k/5k Fun Run.  Start and finish line at the Freedom Fitness Center. Pre-register for $3 or $5 day of race.  Call 380-7720 for more information.

9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Bike Rodeo hosted by Department of Emergency Services at the Fitness Connection parking lot.  Safety first!  This is a great opportunity for bicycle helmet sizing and issue (free helmets for kids, while supplies last!), bike safety, inspection and repair, obstacle course, car seat inspection and proper seat installation.

Bonus: BMX Pro-Riders Ross Laniek, Jordon Johnson, Cory Shipley and Cory Foster will be on-site from 9 a.m. to noon. Call 380-1911 for more information.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. 11th Armored Calvary Regiment Museum open.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Spring Fling Market in the Town Center. Vendors take over Goldstone Road throughout Town Center.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Fort Irwin Earth Day Event along Langford Lake Road near the Town Center; hosted by the Fort Irwin Environmental Department. Come out and see birds of prey, an array of insects and reptiles on display and learn how to treat Mother Earth nicely through recycling tips, pollution prevention and more.  The Envionment Department has a wealth of knowledge and some cool displays that they are excited to share with our community.  Call 380-5290 for more information.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Month of the Military Child Celebration at Jack Rabbit Park. Designated by the Department of Defense, April celebrates and recognizes the Military Child.  Come out and enjoy fair activities such as face painting, bounce houses, pony and train rides, SKIES demonstrations, opportunity drawings and more. All events are free and attendees will receive a 2014 Month of the Military Child tshirt, water bottle, popcorn, candy, snow cones, and water while supplies last.

10 a.m. Pledge of allegiance

10 – 10:15 a.m. Introduction of CYSS Coordinator.

10:15 – 10:30 a.m. Opening ceremony.

10:30 a.m. Activities begin.

11 a.m. – 2 p.m. SKIES demonstrations.

2 – 3:30 p.m. Opportunity drawings.
