Fort Irwin Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack 67 continue to keep Scouting interesting for its members.
Recently, Scouts “enlisted” for 18 hours in the United States Navy while spending a night on the USS Midway Museum in San Diego, according to Maj. Scott Shopa, assistant Scout Master and project manager with Western Region (South) United States Army Health Facility Planning Agency, here.
“For some of the Scouts, the most interesting part was trying to sleep in the 26-inch high enlisted bunks; for others it was the chance to look at the planes and sit in the captain’s chair,” Shopa stated.
According to the Historic Naval Ships Association, the Midway is now the most visited floating ship museum in the world. The museum’s restored air wing features more than 25 aircraft of WWII through Desert Storm vintage.
