Creativity for a good cause earns boy bicycle

Thomas Schantin (in front of mascot) received a bicycle for winning a coloring contest.

Fort Irwin’s Traumatic Brain Injury Task Force recently held a post-wide coloring contest to raise awareness in the community, and more than 450 children entered the competition.

“It was truly a challenge to pick just one,” said judging panelist and TBI Task Force member Capt. Daniel Hines. “These kids are super creative! It really came down to the details.”

Thomas Schantin, third grader at Tiefort View Intermediate School, was announced as the overall winner, and for his tremendous effort was awarded a new bicycle – donated by the Fort Irwin FC men’s soccer team. Coaches Joshua Blodgett and Jorge Rodriguez and players from the team were on hand to congratulate the winner and remind children that TBI’s can occur anywhere, even playing sports such as soccer.

The TBI Task Force gives thanks to all the families who took the time to enter the coloring contest and congratulates each of you. You are ALL winners!
