Rick Creed, a Gold Star dad, shakes hands with Col. Jon Braga, commander of United States Army Garrison at Fort Irwin, May 23. Creed assisted with the installation of a fallen Soldier memorial at the Fort Irwin Town Center. Creed’s son, Cpl. Matthew Creed, 23, was killed by a sniper in Baghdad, Oct. 22, 2006; he served with the 4th Infantry Division from Fort Hood, Texas and had trained at the National Training Center in 2005 prior to deploying. The young Soldier’s parents met with him here while he was on rotation, so the family feels a connection with the installation. Creed says it gives him joy to give back to Soldiers and military families.
