Installation leadership and approximately 50 employees of Fort Irwin’s Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Directorate gathered to sign together an Employee and Customer Covenant, Sept. 16.
The covenant, established five years ago by Installation Management Command, is an affirmation of commitment to Soldiers, families, retirees and civilians.
Fort Irwin United States Army Garrison Commander Col. Scott Taylor was the first to sign the covenant, followed by FMWR Director Sonia Bonet-Betancourt, FMWR division chiefs and members of the FMWR workforce.
“In order for us to live up to these promises, Family and MWR leadership, as well as NTC command and garrison command, must ensure that the workforce is provided the tools necessary to succeed,” said Bonet-Betancourt. “This includes a robust orientation, clear objectives, and most importantly, formal and informal training. All this is necessary, so that we can support and serve the Soldiers who serve for us, the Families that support our Soldiers, the retirees who have served and continue to serve, and the civilian workforce that make up our community.
Bonet-Betancourt stated that FMWR is taking steps towards efficiency and better services that will benefit the community, and that her directorate promises to uphold Army traditions and Army values.
The Customer Covenant states: We are committed to providing quality through service excellence to our Soldiers and Families commensurate with the quality of their service to our Nation. We understand that we create value for our customers through predictable, consistent, efficient and customer focused service. To that end, we promise our customers they will: always be respected and treated as individuals who are valued; receive a prompt and friendly greeting in a professional and courteous manner; experience aesthetically-pleasing facilities; receive timely, accurate and helpful information; be offered high quality products and services, and; have an opportunity to provide feedback.
The Employee Covenant states: Taking care of our customers begins with taking care of you, our employees. We are committed to providing a strong, supportive environment where you can thrive. To that end, we promise to position you for success with: a robust orientation to welcome you to the FMWR team; clear performance standards for service excellence; formal and informal training to develop your skills; performance support tools to assist you on the job; a holistic program of recognition and incentives to reward excellent service, and; career development opportunities to reach your full potential.
