Welcome to the Aerotech News and Review digital edition! We have some great feature stories prepared for your reading enjoyment in this week’s issue. Check out our cover story on the Dream Chaser space plane, which recently wrapped up ground and flight testing conducted by NASA Armstrong at Edwards AFB. The lifting body test vehicle was housed in NASA’s historic space shuttle hangar during its time at Edwards, and underwent a variety of ground and flight tests on and above the base’s concrete runways. We have information on veteran recognition events as we lead up to Memorial Day, including the AV Wall display coming up in Phelan; a call for volunteers for this year’s Memorial Day BBQ at the Pete Knight Veteran’s Home, and information on the 2018 Joey Lopez-Pratti Memorial 5K Run, coming up on June 2 in Rosamond. We have a feature profiling NASA Armstrong chief scientist Al Bowers, who was recently honored by iLEAD Charter School for his support of STEM education programs. And in this week’s High Desert Hangar Stories, Bob Alvis takes a look at an aircraft of yesteryear – the Douglas A2D Skyshark, which demonstrated awesome (but not always stable) turbo prop engine power in the skies over Edwards in the early 1950s. All this and more military and aerospace industry news in this week’s issue of Aerotech News!
