Federal Job Search & Federal Resume Class: April 12 and May 10, 10-11:45 a.m. This class will help customers understand how to navigate USAJobs.gov and to utilize the search engine features. It will assist customers to create an account and understand how the Federal application system works.

Pre-Separation Counseling: April 13, 8:30-11 a.m. This is a prerequisite for the five-day Transition Assistance Program. Spouses are highly encouraged to attend.

The Truth and Myths about Credit Reports: April 14, 3:30-4:30 p.m. This workshop will give you, the consumer, the reasons why you need to look at your credit reports, how to read and interpret it; how to challenge inaccurate information and remove it from your report. We will also look at how you are graded (FICO Score) and take steps to improve your credit reports. We will also cover identity theft and how to prevent that from happening.

Military Family Life Consultant: A Military Family Life Consultant is on board at the A&FRC to help military members, spouses, family members, friends and staff members address issues such as relationships, deployment, parenting, stress, grief and many other issues. SBP/Casualty Assistance Office: The SBP and Casualty Assistance Office are now combined. Every retiring member married or single must make a valid election prior to retiring. Retired military survivor assistance is also available. Help is available to file claims through various agencies: DFAS, B.A., SSA and OPM. Spouse Employment/Volunteer Resources: The link to job search strategies and volunteer opportunities is through the Airman & Family Readiness Center. Instructors Needed: Attention all artists and crafters! If you’re creative, we need you! The Arts & Crafts Center is seeking out instructors of all types. Come and share your creative knowledge with a diverse group of students looking for painting, drawing, photography, scrapbooking and other craft/art related instruction. Wood Safety Orientation Class: Every other Saturday, 1 p.m., call 661-275-ARTS for dates. This class is free. Participants will learn the safety basics of common woodworking equipment. Once you complete the class you can use the full range of equipment in our Wood Hobby Shop for just $2 per hour.

2016 Air Force Club Scholarship Program: Over the past 17 years, the Air Force Club Scholarship Program has provided college tuition assistance to more than 440 Air Force club members and/or their eligible family members. This year the Air Force Club Scholarship Program will again offer this program to all Air Force club members. In past years, entrants were asked to submit an essay and although this option is still available (essay must now be 1,000 words), this year we would like to highly encourage entrants to submit a five-minute video. Entrants can complete their on-line entry form, paste their essay or video link and upload the two letters of recommendation. Free Testing: During the month of April and May 2016, Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) is offering service members a free second shot at passing an exam. DANTES pays for the first exam, so start studying now! You have nothing to lose except FREE college credit. This does not apply to College Level Exam Program (CLEP), as that is a totally different exam program. Family Child Care

Unlicensed Child Care: Air Force Instruction 34-276, Family Child Care Programs, requires individuals in family housing (military or privatized) who provide child care in their home for more than 10 child care hours per week to be a licensed provider. A child care hour is the number of hours times the number of children in care. If unlicensed does not stop, the Base Commander can revoke your privilege of living in base housing. If you need FCC services ensure the provider is licensed. Each approved home, will have a license hanging in the home and a sign on the outside of the home.

Family Child Care is seeking dedicated people who love working with children: If you live on-base and want to care for children in your home or you are a military dependent and live off-base, you may be eligible to be a licensed or affiliated provider! Make a positive difference in the lives of children! Most materials and training are provided free of charge!

Extended Duty Care: The Air Force offers the Extended Duty Care Program to assist parents who need additional child care beyond their normal arrangements due to mission related requirements. Children must already be enrolled in the Child Development Center, the School Age Program or the Family Child Care Program to qualify. To enroll in this free Extended Duty Program or for more information, please contact the Family Child Care office at 661-275-4322.

PCS Care: PCS care is a program offered by Air Force Aid Society offering 20 hours of free child care during your PCS in or out of Edwards! For more information, contact FCC Coordinator at 661-275-4322 or AFRC Center at 661-277-0723.

The Benefits of Being a Family Child Care Provider: Being to work out of your home, working while caring for your own children, being in charge of your own business, doing work that you love, setting your own hours and free training! If you are interested in becoming an FCC licensed provider, contact the FCC Office at 661-275-4322. We need providers to offer alternate hours to accommodate evening, swing and weekend duty hours. We are looking for providers to offer care for children with special needs including asthma, allergies, and other physical impairments. We are also looking for providers to offer Extended Duty Care!

Lunch Hour Table Games Tournament: April 8, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Entry fee is $5, winner takes all. Foosball, ping pong, air hockey, shuffleboard and pool.

Spring Flea Market: April 22, noon-5 p.m. Clean out those closets and garages and sell your unwanted items. Anyone wishing to participate must fill out a form and return it by April 15 at the Oasis Community Center.

Game Night Club: Meets every Tuesday and Thursday, 4-7:30 p.m. in classrooms A and B.

Hula Lessons: Thursdays at 5 p.m. Cost is $20 per month for beginners, and $25 per month for intermediate and advanced.

Musical Instrument Classes: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Cost is $28 per lesson, per week. Classes offered include piano, guitar, drums and kinderfiddle (beginning Violin).

Outdoor Recreation

Climbing Wall Class: April 11, 5-6:30 p.m. at the Oasis Aquatic Center Climbing Wall. Register by April 8 at Outdoor Recreation. Cost is $15 per person, minimum of four participants, maximum of 10. Want to learn to climb? Sign-up for the climbing wall class and learn all the fundamentals of climbing. Anyone under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

Climbing/Hiking at Joshua Tree: April 16, depart at 7 a.m., return at approximately 6 p.m. Register by April 14. Cost is $30 per person and includes transportation, guide and gear. Anyone under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Minimum of eight participants, maximum of 10. Must complete climbing training and certification at Oasis Aquatic Climbing Wall. Joshua Tree offers an extensive network of trails of varying length and difficulty. From short nature trails to long, strenuous hikes, you’re sure to find a trail to your liking. With more than 400 climbing formations and 8,000 climbing routes, Joshua Tree also offers challenging climbs for all levels of climbing ability. It is truly a world-class climbing destination. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

Deep Sea Fishing Trip Channel Islands: April 23, depart at 2 a.m., return at approximately 8 p.m. Register by April 20. Cost is $130 and includes transportation, guide, fishing gear, tackle and bait. Maximum participation of 10. Must be in possession of a California State saltwater fishing license, or be able to purchase a daily license at the marina office. Anyone under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Enjoy a great day of fishing around the Channel Islands with plenty of rail space and adequate room to cast on our selected vessel. The boat does not have a galley, so bring your own food and drinks; small coolers allowed. It is a perfect choice for fishing. We will be targeting White Sea Bass, Halibut, Rockfish and Lingcod. Captains of the Channel Islands Sports fishing vessels specialize in the Central California waters and their knowledge reliably puts anglers right on top of the fish for highly successful fishing trips. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

Stables: Did you know that Outdoor Recreation has riding stables where you can board your horse? For $25 a month with a $25 a month membership fee you can board your horse at Outdoor Recreations Riding Stables. Call Outdoor Recreation for more details.

Overnight Camping at Branch Park: Cost is $5 for a campsite for up to four people. Come and get a “wilderness experience” right here on base. This will be primitive camping (no potable water, no telephones, and no RVs).

Private Parties: Rod & Gun, Paintball, and other Outdoor Recreation activities are available for squadron functions and private parties. In addition to using our facilities, let us plan a trip for you! Interested in going somewhere with your squadron or a group of friends? Tell us and we’ll do the legwork for you. Lunchtime Disc Golf at Mojave Greens: Wednesdays, noon, Mojave Greens Disc Golf Course, Hole 1. Join us for a round of lunchtime golf. Players of all skill levels are invited to attend. Operation Talent Search: Looking For Acts Now! Can you sing, dance, tell jokes, juggle or any other talent you’d like to showcase? Then Edwards is looking for you! Keystone Elections: April 20, 2 p.m. at the Teen Center. The Keystone Club will elect a new president, vice president and other board members.

YES (Youth Employment Skills): The YES Program will begin in the 2015-2016 school year and helps teens earn money for college. The program is open to teens whose parent is active duty Air Force. Teens can earn up to a $1,000 towards their post high school education. Contact the Teen Center for more information.

Keystone Club: Every Wednesday, 2:15 p.m., at the Teen Center. The Keystone Club is a leadership club that performs community service projects around the base. The club also helps teens to maintain focus in high school and graduate and prepare for college.

Congressional Award: The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. The program is open to all 14- to 23-year-olds; young people may register when they turn 13 1/2 years old and must complete their activities before their 24th birthday. Participants earn Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Certificates and Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas; Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. Earning the Award is a fun and interesting way to get more involved in something you already enjoy or something you’d like to try for the first time. You move at your own pace – on your own or with your friends. This is not an award for past accomplishments. Instead, you are honored for achieving your own challenging goals after registering for the program.
Regardless of your situation, you can earn the Congressional Award. The Congressional Award has no minimum grade point average requirements. Teen Council: A Teen Council is being formed to give a voice for teens within the community. The Teen Center is looking for teens associated with other teen youth groups i.e. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Chapel Youth Groups, NHS, ASB, Home Schooled, and any other teen youth groups. Representatives will meet once a month and discuss teen issues on base. If interested, contact Anthony Quinnert at Desert High School or Mr. Paul at the Teen Center.

Teen Center Membership: Parents–memberships at the Teen Center are available year round. Cost is $360 for an annual membership. One of the worst times for a teen to make a bad decision is between the hours of 3 pm and 6 p.m. For a dollar a day you can have peace of mind knowing that your son or daughter is in a safe, fun and developmental environment with a caring staff that will make sure your son or daughter feels right at home and have a great experience.

The Air Force Youth Centers offer sponsorship for kids & teens so that every move is a seamless transition. Super Sitters Course: Cost: $40 course and registration, at Youth Center, Bldg. 5210. Super Sitters courses are held every so often when at least six students are on the list. Once registered, student will be notified of the next available course.

Youth of the Year: Do you have what it takes to represent Edwards AFB at the local, district, state, regional and potentially national level? If so you can earn thousands and thousands of scholarship dollars. Check with your local teen center.

Reading Club: April 12, 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Club Room. Youth will have the opportunity to learn and practice reading, writing and public speaking skills.

Pre-Teen Skate Night: April 15, 6-9 p.m. in the Youth Programs gym. Cost is $5 for members, $7 for non-members. Open to ages 9-12. Join us for skating and just hanging out.

Instructional Classes: Gymnastics and Dance: Classes are available for ages 3 to 18 years of age at the JZ (Jungle Zone) and Main Youth Programs. The classes range from beginner level to advanced level and meet weekly. For more information, call 661-275-KIDS.

Boys & Girls Club Power Hour/Project Learn: Monday-Thursday, 2:45-4 p.m. Power Hour: making minutes count helps club members (ages 6-12) become successful in school by providing homework help/ tutoring while encouraging members to become self-directed learners. Torch Club: Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Torch Room. Torch clubs are charter, small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 9-12.
