For incoming Army Soldiers and families waiting for housing here, temporary lodging can be challenging. When on post accommodations are at full occupancy, service members, contractors and distinguished guest are left searching for lodging in Barstow, Calif., some 35 miles away.
“During the PCS season, Soldiers and families can be on a wait list from a couple days, to sometimes weeks,” said Sandra Key, Director of the Residential Communities Initiative.
To help with temporary housing issues, a new partnership was developed between Michael’s Management Services and Madison Hospitality, which will open up many unoccupied Town Center Terrace apartments for Soldiers and families, contractors, distinguished guests and Soldiers on TDY for training.
“This will open up more opportunities and will help with the overflow from the Landmark Inn,” said Key.
Currently, there are eight units available, however they plan to open up 30 to 40 units for the extended traveler at the prevailing per diem rate.
“We are a temporary solution for those who are waiting for permanent housing and a good solution for those who are here for TDY training, VIP’s as well,” said Benjamin Farmery, Owner of Madison Hospitality, “For the extended stay traveler, it’s nice to be able to do your own laundry and cook your own meals.”
Units come fully furnished with a spacious living room area; large kitchen with full size refrigerator; washer and dryer; walk-in closet; and a comfortable bedroom with a flat screen T.V., included is an extended cable package.
