FORT IRWIN, Calif. – Medical experts hosted Weed Army Community Hospital’s first Mental and Behavioral Health Town Hall on May 27, as apart of Mental Health Awareness Month.
The event was streamed virtually, live on Facebook.com/WeedArmy and professionals provided guidance and emotional support on everything from helping children cope, to alcohol, drug and physical abuse, marital advice and pregnancy, for those experiencing tough times during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.
Guests included Ashley Rand, an RN with the New Parent Support Program, Kyong Turner, an LCSW with SUDCC, Gwyneth Hobson, an LCSW with the Family Assistance Program and Dr. John Kelley with Behavioral Health.
The group took live questions and provided resources to help manage mental health issues. The team will let the community know if and when more Town Halls will be aired.
The theme to this year’s Mental Health campaign was, “Need a Little Help?” because everyone needs a little help sometimes to improve mental health and stay mission ready.
Often taking small steps to address mental health concerns early can make a big difference. The Department of Defense is committed to providing service members and families with access to quality mental health care and resources.
