FORT IRWIN, Calif. — The Silver Valley Unified School District continues to try to adjust, adapt and develop a new learning model in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. The district said it will announce its reopening plans during the week of July 13.
On June 9, the following was posted to the district’s Facebook page.
“We are excited to announce our Silver Valley Virtual Learning option for our families next year, in addition to a traditional in-class model with new CDC
health guidelines.”
A video and fliers were provided through social media and email, explaining their K-12 virtual learning programs.
The K-8th program consists of daily, live lessons from Silver Valley teachers, along with the Calvert Learning system. Students will have an SVUSD Teacher who will give one hour of live instruction each day.
The 9th-12th virtual learning program will be a self-paced program that offers A-G, AP, CTE, Foreign Languages and electives, with access to a Silver Valley teacher to help guide them through the curriculum. SVUSD will also continue to offer access to the computer lab at Tiefort View Intermediate School and students would be required to check in with their teacher once every two weeks to ensure they are staying on track.
Virtual Enrollment
Another perk is that all students that participate in virtual learning would be able to participate in school assemblies, field trips, clubs, school meals, and athletics.
During that same week, the district also began online enrollment for all new families. The link can be found on the district website, as well as each school website at http://www.svusdk12.net/.
Interested returning students can email the district at olr@svusdk12.net for assistance in enrolling into virtual learning for the next school year.
SVUSD 2020-21 School Year
On June 17, the district also unveiled three options it’s considering in light of COVID-19. They include:
Model A: All students return in August with safety protocols in place
Model B: All students return with an A-day/B-day model with safety protocols in place
Model C: Distance learning, if Department of Health orders deem it necessary.
