In late March, about 50 Fort Irwin homeschool students got an up-close and (a little) dirty look at life in the sands, brush and rocks that make up most of the National Training Center.
Directorate of Public Works Environmental Division and NTC G3 Integrated Training Area Management staff hosted about 30 children, 9 years and younger, and their parents at five “discovery stations” at the DPW Environmental Outreach Center here, March 26. The next day, 10-17 year-old students explored the Painted Rocks area of Fort Irwin Road, to learn more about the geology, biology and archaeology of the surrounding area. Organizing and coordinating the field trips were Stacy Baquera, for the homeschoolers, and Liana Aker for DPW.
