Maj. Gen. Marcelite Harris was the first African-American female general officer of the U.S. Air Force. Her years of service, 1965-1997, included many “firsts.” She was the first female aircraft maintenance officer, one of the first two female air officers commanding at the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the Air Force’s first female director of maintenance.
