Marguerite Erixon Cain was born to Gustav and Ethel Erixon in Denver, Colo., on Feb. 8, 1921. After high school, she enrolled at the Colorado State College of Education (now University of Northern Colorado), where she began training for a career as a teacher in business education.
World War II disrupted Cain’s plans, however, and she became the first woman from her town to swear into the Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service). She finished her Navy career as a Specialist First Class Petty Officer.
Postwar, Cain married a fellow veteran of World War II in 1948. She had four children and became involved in the local PTA, and served as a Cub Scouts den mother. She died on Nov. 29, 1990, and now rests in the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Colorado.
We honor her service.
