Fall breaks usher in youth center happenings
The 56th Force Support Squadron Youth Center at Luke Air Force Base will be hosting a variety of activities for preteens and teens during the fall break periods.
Fall break school-age camps
The school-age program will be hosting a fall break camp Tuesday through Oct. 16 for youth, ages 5 to 12, from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and activities including some field trips are included. The cost to attend is based on total household family income.
Coed volleyball camp
Youth, ages 9 to 11, attend a coed volleyball camp 9 to 11 a.m. and youth, ages 12 to 18, attend 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday through Oct. 16. The cost is $20 per youth program member and $30 per nonmember. Aspects of the game are taught through drills and exercises that focus on passing, setting, hitting and serving. This coed camp is designed for the beginner player and will incorporate essential life-lessons such as teamwork and sportsmanship. The volleyball instructor will assist participants in developing the fundamental skills of the game through game-based drills and scrimmages aimed at developing the whole player.
Field trips for preteens
• “Sideways Stories from Wayside School” by Childsplay Arizona
Youth program members, ages 9 to 12, attend a presentation Wednesday at the Tempe Center for the Arts. The youth leave Luke Air Force Base at 10 a.m. and return at 3 p.m. The cost is $10 per youth program member. For more information on the play, go to http://www.childsplayaz.org.
• Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport tour
Youth program members, ages 9 to 12, tour the airport 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. There is no cost. The tour includes riding the Sky Train and visiting terminals three and four which house the museum gallery and a World War 1 fighter plane.
• #WeOwnFriday — K1 Speed
Teens, ages 13 to 18, participate in indoor go-kart racing 6 to 10:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at K1 Speed Phoenix. The cost is $25 per youth program members and $30 per nonmember. Registration deadline is today.
