Airman 1st Class Samuel Lockard, 56th Medical Support Squadron laboratory technician, puts blood vials into the Beckman Coulter Allegra X-30 Centrifuge Oct. 19 at Luke Air Force Base. The Beckman Coulter Allegra X-30 Centrifuge spins blood at 3,056 revolutions per minute separating plasma from the blood.

Airman Kaeley Coleman, 56th MDSS medical laboratory technician, examines a specimen through a microscope. The 56th MDSS provides administrative, financial, diagnostic and therapeutic services that are essential to the health and wellness of more than 84,000 beneficiaries.

Lab specimens are prepared for testing at the medical laboratory. The lab at Luke tests more than 37,500 specimens annually.

Senior Airman Tim Chao, 56th MDSS medical laboratory technician, verifies lab results on the Siemens Dimension EXL 200. The EXL 200 performs a variety of tests that include for diabetes, thyroid stimulating hormone and hemoglobin deficiencies.
