One may think the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center is closed since the perimeter of the gym is surrounded by a fence, but it’s open and fitted with new equipment.
“To get to the gym’s temporary entrance, walk toward the Combat PT Center, and you’ll see two trailers in the front as well as signs pointing you to the gym’s entrance,” said Toni Bazan, 56th Force Support Squadron Bryant Fitness Center assistant director. “Once inside, you’ll observe the weight equipment and cardio machines are now located in the gym’s basketball court.”
It may seem more impressive as the gym received upgrades which included two hand bikes, two utility benches, nine Life Fitness treadmills, four PowerMill stair steppers, six Versa climbers, eight Matrix benches, a Precor-cable crossover machine and more.
While the equipment has improved, some areas had to be eliminated to make room for change.
“When the renovation is complete in spring of 2017, the basketball court will be back but the wallyball courts will no longer be available since they are not included in the new design,” said Ansel Bingham, 56th FSS Bryant Fitness Center director. “The new gym will be more spacious and given a fresh look. The current floorplan also includes a sauna, massage room and parent-child workout area.”
Amenities are still available for Thunderbolts who like to shower at the gym as there are two trailers outside the entrance containing showers, restrooms and locker rooms.
Bazan encourages Airmen to come see the new temporary gym.
“The gym is available to active-duty personnel, retirees, dependents, Defense Department civilians or anyone with access to the base,” Bazan said. “Come check out the gym and let us help you reach your fitness goals.”
The gym is open 4:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on holidays.
Additionally, the Combat PT Center has the same hours and is available for use. For more information, call the Combat PT Center at 623-856-2291.
