A look back at fighter county – 1950s

The F-100 Super Sabre, the first operational U.S. Air Force fighter capable of supersonic speed in level flight, was first assigned to Luke AFB on Oct. 29, 1957.

By the end of 1951, the rehabilitation of Luke AFB was complete.

The sweptwing F-84F Thunderstreak replaced the F-84G as the primary fighter training weapons system at Luke AFB in the late 1950s.
