The 56th Component Maintenance Squadron flag football team shut out the Detachment 12, 372nd Training Squadron team 37-0 Sept. 28 at Luke Air Force Base.
CMS came into the game as the favorite having only one previous loss and didn’t disappoint when they scored two touchdowns followed by a safety early in the game.
“It was a pretty good game for us,” said James Mantho, 56th Maintenance Group maintenance scheduler. “It was a nice bounce back after losing to the 56th Medical Group.”
Half time ended with the score 23-0.
In the second half, CMS continued their pace and kept driving the ball down the field. The 372nd TRS managed to intercept a lobbed ball and ran it back a few yards back, but attempted a double pitch that ended in a fumble.
After the failed double pitch attempt, CMS ran the ball for a touchdown and a successful extra point.
“This win gave back confidence to our team,” Mantho said. “As far as our opponents, they need some work; they’ll figure it out.”
The 372nd had multiple interceptions and successful runs and stops, but they weren’t able to complete a drive to a touchdown.
Both teams gave it their all, but in the end the 56th CMS team scored all the points.
“We played poorly in all respects,” said Steven Martin, 372nd TRS, Det. 1 fuels systems instructor. “It’s time to regroup and get ready for the next opponent.”
