Q: I bought TRICARE Young Adult, when will my coverage start?
A: TRICARE Young Adult Prime Option
If the regional contractor gets your TRICARE Young Adult application:
• By the 20th of the month, your coverage starts on the first day of the next month
• After the 20th of the month, coverage starts on the first day of the second month

TRICARE Young Adult Standard Option
• If the regional contractor gets your TRICARE Young Adult application by the end of the month, your coverage starts on the first day of the next month or the date you chose on your application (up to 90 days in the future)
For example, if the contractor gets your application on December 31 and you didn’t choose a start date, your coverage starts January 1.
Note: Send in your application within 30 days of your loss of regular TRICARE coverage so your TRICARE Young Adult coverage can start the day after.
