Nellis Auto Hobby Shop

The Nellis Auto Hobby Shop is looking for volunteers who are interested in teaching people how to properly take care of their vehicle.
The shop wants to start a program that will teach:
* Car Care 101
* Oil Changes
* Preventative Maintenance
* Tire Wear and Tear Detection

Back to School Bash: Youth Programs is hosting a Back to School Bash, 2-4 p.m., Aug. 11. Beat the back-to-school blues at the Youth Center (110 Stafford Drive, Bldg. 2999) for food, games and giveaways. This event is open to all who live and/or work on Nellis. Kids Golf: The Sunrise Vista Golf Course is offering Kids Drive Free through Sept. 1. Anytime between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., children aged 17 and under can stop by the Pro Shop and get at token and hit unlimited range balls. For more information, call 702-652-4497.

Dormer’s Game Night: Community Commons invites all dormitory residents to a night of fun and games, 6-8 p.m., Aug. 10. Food and drinks will be provided. Stop by and enjoy board games, console games and more. Shuttle services will be available to and from Community Commons from 4-6 p.m., and 8-9 p.m.

Black Canyon Kayaking: Nellis’ Outdoor Recreation is offering Black Canyon kayaking trips Aug. 4 and 25, and Sept. 15. Cost is $75 per person and includes transportation, equipment, fees and lunch. Minimum age is 11. Sign up required 30 days in advance. For more information, call 702-652-8967.

Thrift Store: Volunteers needed: The Nellis Area Spouses’ Club Thrift Shop is looking for volunteers. There are many opportunities including donation sorting, pricing, straightening shelves, stocking the store, bagging, assisting the cashier and many more. Volunteer hours are 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and the first Saturday of each month. Volunteers with small children will be reimbursed for childcare costs. Horseback riding: Outdoor Recreation is offering one-hour guided trail tours at Bonnie Springs Ranch’s Old Nevada Town. The cost is $75 and includes transportation, horseback riding, and activities on the ranch. The trip is open to anyone six years and older, and the weight limit is 250 pounds. Participants must wear close-toed shoes, and no double riding is allowed. Upcoming dates include July 28 and Sept. 29, and the trip runs 9 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, call 702-652-2514.

Nellis Company Grade Officer’s Council: The Nellis CGOC provides a source of social and professional development for all company grade officers at Nellis. Volunteer and leadership opportunities are available as well as the chance to network with other like-minded professionals at Nellis. Creech Happenings:

Shuttle bus: Nellis dorm and Base Housing residents who work at Creech now have another option for transportation to and from work — a new FEDVAN Shuttle option to/from Creech. All costs are covered under the Mass Benefits Transportation Program. For more information, contact Sommer Loftin, 79th Air Base Group, at 702-404-1731 to sign up.

Need uniform items but don’t have time to go to Nellis? Creech is slated to have the ability to order uniform items and have them delivered next day. Talk to your squadron leadership for more information.
